A Message for Easter Day 2026

From Fr. Jamie, Whaley + Abbey

Alleluia! Christ is Risen !

The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

As the first light of this Easter morning breaks over Whaley Abbey, we stand at the empty tomb, not in a state of confusion, but in the radiant clarity of the Resurrection.

In this "Year A" of our lectionary cycle, we walk with Matthew to the garden and hear the angel’s definitive command: "Do not be afraid."

For us, as Anglo-Catholics, Easter is not merely a historical commemoration; it is a

Sacramental reality. In the Great Vigil, we moved from the darkness of the tomb to the blazing light of the Paschal Candle.

In the waters of Baptism and the breaking of the Bread, the Risen Christ is not a memory, but a living Presence. Through these holy mysteries, we are physically grafted into His victory over death.

The Hope of the Resurrection

The Resurrection is the ultimate protest against the "way things are."

It is God’s "Yes" to life and His "No" to the powers of darkness.

In a world often shadowed by uncertainty, the empty tomb provides an unshakable hope.

It reminds us that even the deepest winter of the soul must give way to the eternal spring of God’s Kingdom.

Unity and Diversity

At Whaley Abbey, we celebrate that the Body of Christ is made whole by its diversity.

Just as the light of the Resurrection refracts into a thousand different

colors, so too does God’s love manifest in the unique beauty of every

person. We are called to a unity that does not demand uniformity, but rather a radical love that embraces all as children of the Most High.

A Prayer for Peace

Our joy this morning is tempered by a solemn awareness of the world’s suffering.

As we celebrate the Prince of Peace, our hearts turn toward those caught in the grip of violence and warfare.

We pray for an end to the clamor of weapons.

We pray for the healing of nations torn apart by strife.

We pray that the "peace which passes all understanding" may take root in the hearts of leaders and citizens alike.

May the blessing of the Risen Lord be upon you, your families, and our entire community this Eastertide.

Let us go forth into the world as people of the Resurrection—messengers of peace, agents of Love, and witnesses to the Joy that never ends.

Wishing you a blessed and glorious Easter.

In Christs Love,
